The ability to manage and manipulate large data sets quickly and reliably for trade research and development is a significant part of their business. This relies on a database of historic trading data against which they can test scenarios and supplement the extensive quantitative research they undertake in order to advise clients.
Sarkis’ data is therefore critical to business continuity and success, and in November 2021 Sarkis chose Cloudsoft to migrate around 400 million records into AWS.
Using cloud technology was a logical step for us in our systems development, but because it was largely new to us we relied on Cloudsoft’s expertise to guide us in the choice of cloud provider, implementation and for our database migration, the whole time ensuring the required security standards were met.

The project
The key requirements from Sarkis were that their datastore was secure and reliable. This included access from non-secure locations, such as remote working and whilst on-the-move.
Sarkis chose AWS because of the well-deserved reputation for security and reliability. The managed services offered by AWS make it simple to configure and operate applications and databases.
New to cloud, Sarkis chose Cloudsoft for the migration as they saw huge value in working with a proven partner who could not only build the environment they needed but help steer them through the maze of options available, and ensure best practices were being followed particularly in relation to security.
The outcome
Cloudsoft communicated the alternatives and trade-offs clearly in plain English, so we had full understanding of what our AWS environment would deliver. I would strongly recommend Cloudsoft, including to those considering their first foray into the cloud.

The final deliverable of the project involved writing runbooks, playbooks, and processes to update and maintain their new cloud environment. This leaves the Sarkis team with the resources to manage their new environment, while focusing on their business goals.
